Jon Stewart to continue hosting The Daily Show
Comedy star Jon Stewart has committed his future to The Daily Show.
Jon Stewart will continue hosting The Daily Show through until 2028.
The 63-year-old comedian returned to host the satirical TV news show on a part-time basis in 2024 - but now, after agreeing a new deal with Comedy Central, he will continue to host his once-a-week show until the next US election.
George Cheeks, the co-chair and chief content officer at production company Skydance TV, said in a statement: "Jon Stewart is a generational talent and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central.
"We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team."
The latest agreement is Jon's longest extension since returning to the hit TV show.
Jon originally left The Daily Show in 2015, when he was replaced by comedian Trevor Noah, who departed in December 2022.
Jon has also served as an executive producer on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which was cancelled in May. And Stephen previously shared his regrets about the show ending.
Asked what it would look like if he was going out on his own terms, Stephen told The Hollywood Reporter: "I mean, a lot like this — I’d just be a little older. And it would have been my choice, and I probably would have known what the final show was going to be a little bit earlier."
Stephen hosted The Colbert Report from 2005 to 2014, and he's thankful that he got to leave that show when he wanted to.
He reflected: "On The Colbert Report, I picked that day — I didn’t tell anybody, but I knew two years ahead of time. Well, we didn’t pick this day.
"We know what it’ll be now, but it took a few months. But maybe they gave me a gift because I had a lot of jokes I could make about the end of the show, and if I’d decided to end the show, then I’m the bad guy — hard to make jokes about that."
