The Beastmaster star Marc Singer has been rushed to hospital after suffering a terrifying health scare.

Paramedics rushed to the Los Angeles home of the 78-year-old actor - who also starred in 1980s TV series V - on Saturday (17.10.26) after he experienced an episode of severe pain and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to TMZ.com.

The website reports Singer was kept under the care of doctors overnight and they ran a number of tests which all came back clear. He was expected to have been released on Sunday (18.10.26).

No further details have been given and Marc has yet to comment on the health scare.

Marc shot to fame with his starring role as Dar in 1983 fantasy movie The Beastmaster and he reprised the role for 1992 sequel Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time.

He's also known for playing Mike Donovan in 1983 sci-fi minis-series V and he returned to the Beastmaster franchise in the 1990s with a recurring role in the TV spin-off which ran between 1999 and 2002.

Marc returned to his theatre roots in recent years, working on a number of productions with the American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) after first becoming enamoured with the plays of William Shakespeare as a child.

Speaking to the Grigware Talks Theatre blog in 2017, Marc credited his father with giving him his love for the classics, saying: "I was very fortunate ...

"My father got me interested in Shakespeare when I was 10 years old, in the fifth grade. Through the years I discovered eventually that I really was interested in acting and that Shakespeare was foundational to my studies and to my whole life.

"It was the thing that made life make sense for me. I was fortunate enough eventually to be accepted into a conservatory program run by Mr. William Duncan Ross who had come I think from the National Theatre School of Canada.

"Later he became the head of the drama department at USC. He was an extraordinary Shakesperean scholar ... and a director and an actor."

However, Marc still looked back fondly on his time as The Beastmaster, telling the outlet: "The Beastmaster was an extraordinary kind of charmic event in my life ...

"Hollywood is a dream machine. And it is, because one day an actor's walking down the street and the next day he's the Beastmaster.

"And from that day on, he has in his own small way a niche in Hollywood filming history ...

"It was so fulfilling and so exciting when it was all over to think, to realize that people would now think of me as the Beastmaster."
