Carly Rae Jepsen embraces her 'fresh new chapter'
Pop star Carly Rae Jepsen has reflected on the impact of motherhood.
Carly Rae Jepsen is relishing her "fresh new chapter" after giving birth to her first child.
The 40-year-old pop star welcomed her son Ilya Blue seven months ago, and Carly has explained how motherhood has changed her life.
The chart-topping singer - who married music star Cole M.G.N in 2025 - told People: "You can see us coming from a mile away. We’re carrying strollers and diaper bags and eight other things.
"We’re figuring it out together, and it’s all so new to us. We’re really enjoying it."
Carly relished working on new music while she was still pregnant.
She said: "I’ve had other chapters that have been lonelier, like I was on a journey not knowing where it was leading. It feels like a really fresh new chapter that I’m in now, with a family that I couldn’t be more grateful for."
Carly has always found music to be cathartic for her.
The singer explained: "I’ve always felt like music is a beautiful place to go when you want to feel all the things. It can make even the hard feelings a little more poetic, a little more beautiful.
"Even when I was a child and had yet to experience love or loss, I remember hearing Willie Nelson saying something so pining that I was excited to participate — like, I want to know what heartbreak feels like; he made it sound so bada**."
Carly and Cole tied the knot after three years together, and the singer is thankful that her husband can understand the stresses and strains of being an artist.
The Call Me Maybe hitmaker said: "I’m really glad I landed with an artist as a partner; I can’t imagine anybody else getting it.
"It is a little bit weird to walk around and be shouting at your partner, like, ‘Quick, grab the phone. I have an idea’ — and they don’t bat an eye and are hearing you sing something from the shower, and it’s just a normal part of the day."
