Brad Pitt has joked George Clooney is a "really bad dancer".
The 62-year-old star wasn't in attendance as his longtime friend received Venice International Film Festival's Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement on Wednesday (02.09.26), but Laura Dern read out a message from him as she introduced the Jay Kelly actor.
In his message, Brad quipped: "He can do, perform, accomplish, compete at most anything and does it better than any of us, but please, keep him off the dance floor. He doesn’t know.
"And now, this pigeon-toed kid from Kentucky, elder statesman, who when you can’t get Brad Pitt you know Clooney will show up because he never met an award he wouldn’t run to, is getting a lifetime achievement award?"
The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star, who first appeared with George, 65, in 2001 classic Ocean's 11, did offer some genuine compliments for his pal, but couldn't resist another dig.
He added: "So why? Why do we love George Clooney?
He’s a rogue, a prankster, an altruist, an actor, an athlete.
"The only guy you’d want in a crisis. A father, a husband, a global citizen, a defender of justice, and...a really bad dancer.”
Laura Dern also read out a note from George's friend, and their Jay Kelly castmate, Adam Sandler.
He joked: "Dern, make sure they know there is nobody who thinks of others ever like George. Please, Laura, talk about George’s skinniness and how big fit he is. Damn, it’s incredible.”
George's CAA partner and longtime agent Bryan Lourd, who has worked with the Hollywood megastar for 25 years, opened up on the "privilege" of knowing him.
Bryan's message read: “The privilege of being his friend and partner in life in film is one of the great gifts and honours of my life.
"He has shared his heart, his brain, his talent, his [life] with all of us. He is singular and truly one of the greats.”
And in another note read by Laura, filmmaker Alexander Payne compared George to icons like Clark Gable and Cary Grant.
He said: "What makes George Clooney such a great actor, director and citizen are his humanity and compassion.
"Not only that, but for us movie buffs, meeting George is the closest you will ever get to meeting Clark Gable or Cary Grant and what that must have been like.
"He’s just one of those guys. But when you meet him, he makes you feel like the most important person in the room.
"He remembers everything, tells jokes, pours great wine, treats everybody the same, makes everybody laugh, shares brutal gossip.”
