Angelina Jolie’s brother has come out as gay.
James Haven - the older brother of the Hollywood star - took to his Instagram page to share the update with fans, posting pictures of himself alongside former wife Romi Imbelli.
He wrote alongside them: “I, James Haven, begin a new chapter of my life. After many years of healing from childhood trauma.
“I am now free to live the life that I believe I was always meant to live. One of hope, one of peace and one of love. So as my story unfolds, I want you all to know that I do it with an open heart, with nothing but love for myself and for all of you.”
James - the son of Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand - concluded: “Thank you for allowing me to be what I was meant to be.”
James tied the knot with The Real L Word star Imbelli back in August 2024, although announced in March 2025 that the marriage had been annulled - with court paperwork stating that the annulment paperwork had been filed just 15 days after the wedding.
In a live conversation on Imbelli’s Substack, titled Breath Mija, James said: “I’m gay.”
His former wife then quipped: “As gay as gay can be.”
To which James replied: “I’m a lot of things. I’m trying to keep my humility right now.”
Imbelli added that James’ mother Marcheline, who died in 2007, had referred to him as “pony boy”, which he said “did not realise [it] was a gay term for a young gay man”.
He added of his childhood: “When I was a little boy, I was absolutely obsessed with the Disney princesses. I would sneak glitter onto my cheeks, swipe mascara onto my lashes, and for those moments, I felt like magic."
However, as he got older, he “started wondering if that sparkle was something I had to hide to be accepted by the 'normal' boys around me”.
He continued: “Like so many gay kids, I learned to question parts of myself long before I learned to celebrate them."
James concluded: “Coming out isn't about becoming someone new. It's about allowing everyone else to meet the person who has been here all along."
James hit headlines worldwide after he and sister Angelina shared a kiss on the lips at the Academy Awards in 2000, with the actress later saying the moment reflected nothing more than "brotherly" love between the siblings.
