Owen Thiele reveals hilarious way his mother keeps him 'humble'
Owen Thiele has become a household name thanks to his roles in shows such as Adults and Overcompensating, but says his mum is determined not to let him get a big head.
Rising star Owen Thiele has revealed the hilarious way his mother keeps him “grounded” amid his exponential rise to fame.
The 29-year-old has become a household name thanks to his roles in shows such as Adults and Overcompensating.
But in an interview with People, Owen laughed that his mum Amy Kanter is always on hand to stop him from getting a big head.
He said: “I’m not grounded. But my mom humbles me. She texts me really ugly pictures of myself. I’ll be sitting on the couch, and she’ll send me a picture of me looking absolutely hideous. It humbles me.”
As well as his acting career, Owen has become a successful podcaster, and has interviewed mega stars including Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner on his In Your Dreams podcast.
Of his stratospheric rise to superstardom, Owen called it a “whirlwind”, and added: “I feel very grateful and very lucky.”
The actor’s next project is a semi-autographical series he’s developing called Off Color, which will star Ilana Glazer.
Speaking about the comedy show, Owen said: “Well, attached is Susie Essman, the brilliant comedian. She’s playing my mother. And I knock on wood that she is available. She’s booked and busy. We are developing. We’re working with Amazon very closely and hopefully we’ll be making something soon.”
However, he acknowledged that it’s “really scary to write about your life”, even comparing it to “therapy”.
He said: “It’s journaling every day. It’s dark. I’m learning things about myself that I did not want to figure out.”
Another of Owen’s upcoming jobs is on the reboot of 2004 romcom 13 Going On 30, alongside Jessica Alba and Logan Lerman among others.
But he remained tight-lipped when questioned about exactly who he is going to be playing in the revisited film.
He grinned: “What can I spoil? Nothing. You guys have to watch it. Sorry. I can’t tell you about my role yet. Just think hard. Think very hard and you still won’t be able to figure it out. Love you.”
