Dark Matters' Joel Edgerton pretended to be Sam Worthington as fan mistook him for Avatar star
Dark Matters star Joel Edgerton played along with the fan's mistake in thinking he was Avatar's Sam Worthington.
Joel Edgerton pretended to be Sam Worthington after an emotional fan mistook the actor for the latter during a meet-and-greet.
The 52-year-old star signed an autograph for the supporter before playing along with the mix-up and accepting praise for 49-year-old entertainer Sam's role as Jake Sully in Avatar.
Joel recalled to Entertainment Weekly: "One time I had a young lady run up to me and say, 'Oh my God, Oh my God, can I get your autograph?' And she was on the verge of tears. And I was like, 'Wow, I’m really having an effect over this woman.'"
But the Warrior actor soon realised that she had got emotional because of believing he was Sam.
Joel continued: "She said, 'Can you sign your autograph?' And then she held it to her heart, and she goes, 'I just loved you in Avatar.'"
Rather than correcting the fan, The Gift alum played along with her mistake.
Joel remembered: "I just said, 'Thank you. Thank you.' Whenever people mistake me for a particular movie, I just say, 'Thank you… Thank you for the compliments.'"
The Great Gatsby cast member thinks she must have eventually worked out he was not Sam.
Joel suggested: "They go away and maybe work it out later. And I’m sure she went, 'J.E., what…'"
He added: "She obviously thought I was Sam Worthington. He’s a good-looking guy."
Joel's Dark Matter co-star Jennifer Connelly said fans often mistake her for a certain 63-year-old actress.
She told Entertainment Weekly: "I’ve gotten people insisting - going through security the other day, they’re like, 'Oh my God, you’re Demi Moore.'
"I was like, 'I’m not.' They were like, 'You are.'
"'Again, No. I’m really not. I’m not. I have my passport to show you.'"
But some supporters even claim Jennifer, 55, was in movies that she has no links to.
The Top Gun: Maverick performer recalled: "I had someone say to me, 'You were so good in that movie with Brad Pitt,' and I was like, 'Not in a movie with Brad Pitt.'
"They’re like, 'Yes, you are,' I’m like, 'I’m really not, I promise you.'"
