Rory Feek's daughter home after eight days in hospital
Rory Feek's daughter, Indiana, spent eight days in hospital after medics successfully removed 610 ccs of fluid from around her heart following a terrifying health ordeal.
Rory Feek's daughter is back home following a terrifying health ordeal, which saw her airlifted to hospital for an eight-day stay.
Last month, Indiana, 12, who has Down syndrome, underwent open-heart surgery for a congenital heart defect.
But on July 16, she was blue lit to a hospital in Waco, Texas, before being flown to a hospital in Austin, Texas, accompanied by her stepmom Rebecca Feek, while the country singer drove, after Indiana's headache and cough led her to vomit and pass out.
According to Rory's July 11 Substack post, doctors told him and Rebecca - who held Indiana in their arms "literally crying, begging for help" as they "thought we had lost her" - that "the area around her heart had filled up with fluid, and it was constricting her heart’s ability to beat properly", a side effect of the open-heart surgery.
Indiana's heart rate returned to normal after medics successfully drained 610 ccs of fluid during surgery, and Rory, 61, said she "is doing great and should make a full recovery, and hopefully have no further problems like this in the future".
And on Saturday (18.07.26), the Gentleman hitmaker - who has Indiana with his late wife, singer Joey Feek - took to Substack to tell his fans that Indiana was back home after being discharged from hospital.
He penned: "Yesterday afternoon, eight days after going back to the children’s hospital in Austin. we finally got word that Indy was free and clear to come home. Hallelujah!
"I think they kept her for even longer than they’d planned, just to be extra confident we wouldn’t find ourselves back there anytime soon."
As the Harvest Time artist and Rebecca unpacked, Indiana and her pals "went through more of the sweet cards and letters" she received while staying in hospital.
Rory continued: "Honestly, the outpouring of love from everyone - some we know and most we’ll probably never met - that we’ve received in the last few weeks, has been absolutely humbling for our whole family..
"It’s been unusually mild here, especially for mid-July in Texas… so before bedtime, we spent a little time outside getting some fresh air. And we took a walk down the lane together and talked about the last few weeks.
"Where we’ve been and where we’re going. About the surgery and the scary morning, and about how nice it is to be back home.
"And we talked about how wonderful it will be when we’re living back home in Tennessee later this Fall or winter.
"But for now, we’re just thankful to be home again here in Waco."
The Grammy winner - who has daughters Heidi, 40, and Hopie, 38, with his ex-wife, Tamara Gilmer - reassured his fans that Indiana is "doing amazing and looking and feeling better than ever".
Rory concluded his post: "PS: Indy’s doing amazing and looking and feeling better than ever. Pretty much completely her old self.
"And although she’s excited about getting back to sleeping in her big girl bedroom…for the next few nights, Mama’s not taking any chances.
"She’s sleeping in a bed at the foot of ours."
