Kelly Clarkson jokes she is happy to be done with 'no more HR meetings' as talk show ends
Kelly Clarkson's eponymous NBC talk show ends this Fall after seven seasons.
Kelly Clarkson joked she is relieved to have "no more HR meetings" after finishing her eponymous talk show.
The 44-year-old singer regularly questioned the examples and policies for filming the NBC program, which ends this Fall after seven seasons, because they differed from the rules of her music career, making the sessions unpopular with the star’s colleagues.
According to a video posted on Instagram, Kelly joked to the audience during the first night of her Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions - The Las Vegas Residency at Caesars Palace on Friday (17.07.26) that she "would get fired [by] NBC, but I don't work there anymore".
The Since U Been Gone hitmaker added: "We are sad about [it]. It was a fun show."
Kelly said some of the things she saw while out on the road would not have gone down well in other workplaces.
The three-time Grammy winner shared: "It's funny, you go to those HR meetings, and you’re like, 'Nobody on the road would last.'
"It's just a different world. I was 19 on a bus with dudes. 'What? I can’t do what?' 'Yeah, that’s completely inappropriate.'"
In HR meetings, Kelly joked that "they say dumb s***, like, you can’t comment if someone’s lost weight".
The first winner of American Idol added: "And I’m like, b****! You better write a memo. You better write a memo about it, a song about it. I just think that’s so dumb.
"It makes people feel good when you say, 'Oh, you look really good.' And then people are like, 'No, because that means you thought they did look really bad.'"
Kelly then shared her joy in having "no more HR meetings", before she added, laughing: "I'm just kidding."
The Breakaway artist admitted her Kelly Clarkson Show colleagues did not like her being in HR meetings because she would ask questions.
Kelly explained: "Everyone actually hated doing HR meetings with me because I am a nerd. I would literally be like, 'I’m sorry, so your example is ...?'
"I would stop the class, and everyone would be like, 'Can I do the meeting without Kelly?' 'Cause they'd have separate meetings, and everybody would opt out of any meeting I would be in."
The Voice coach frequently pushed back to "protect everyone".
She said: "I would just get into it because I feel like you need to get into it. You gotta protect everyone. Anyway, I don't have to do it anymore."
Kelly's approach left the teachers "sweating" because she is "a curious cat".
In February, the Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) performer announced The Kelly Clarkson Show will be coming to an end in the Fall after seven seasons so that she could "prioritize" her daughter River, 12, and son Remy, 10, after their dad and her ex-husband-and-former talent manager Brandon Blackstock lost his battle with melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, in August 2025 at the age of 48.
Kelly penned on Instagram: "I have been extremely fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people at [The Kelly Clarkson Show], both in Los Angeles and New York."
She continued: "There have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons.
"I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner.
"Because of all of that, this was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting [The Kelly Clarkson Show]. Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives."
Despite her talk show ending, Kelly intends to continue making music and has teased more appearances on The Voice.
The star wrote: "This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there and you may catch me on The Voice from time to time… you never know where I might show up next.
"But for now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years."
