Kasabian star Serge Pizzorno hasn’t spoken to the band’s ex lead singer Tom Meighan since he was convicted of assault.

Tom left the group in July 2020, and the day after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his now-wife Vikki Ager at their home.

While his bandmates told Serge it was his time to “step up” and take over the role of lead singer, the 45-year-old said it was a “dark, horrendous” time, adding to The Telegraph: “You can't even imagine how tough it was.”

Despite being best friends prior to the conviction, Serge added to the newspaper that they haven’t spoken since “it happened”.

And, asked if he misses Tom, he replied that he “misses the old Tom”.

Serge also said that he and his bandmates that they “were left with no choice but to ask Tom to leave the band”.

He also said: “There is absolutely no way we can condone his assault conviction.”

The interviewer asked Serge if he would have handled anything differently if he had to deal with the situation now, to which he replied: “The thing is with this… It's too deep to go into the little ins and outs... It's happened. It's done.”

After pleading guilty to assault, Tom was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work and ordered to complete five days of rehabilitation.

He released a statement after his conviction which read: “I am very sorry and deeply regret my recent behavior. In no way am I trying to condone my actions or make excuses. I am completely to blame and accept all responsibility.”

Tom and Vikki tied the knot in July 2021, and released a statement at the time saying: “Tom has worked so hard on himself, his health, family unit and his relationship with Vikki over the past year.

“They are very much in love and looking forward to sharing the rest of their lives together.”

Tom has found success as a solo artist after leaving Kasabian, and said previously of the way things went down with the group: “We were together a long, long time, we were a family, we grew up together. That's what's so... hurtful.”
