Catherine, Princess of Wales and Queen Camilla were among those congratulating British tennis star Arthur Fery as he progressed to the semi-finals at Wimbledon.
Catherine, Princess of Wales has hailed British tennis star Arthur Fery for the "fantastic achievement" of reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old tennis star earned a memorable victory against Italian ninth seed Flavio Cobolli on Centre Court on Wednesday (08.07.26) to reach the last four at the All England Club and the princess - an avid tennis fan who serves as the club's patron - took to social media to praise the sportsman.
Catherine, 44, wrote on social media platform X : “A memorable day at Wimbledon. Congratulations to Arthur Fery on becoming the first British wildcard to reach the Gentlemen’s Singles semi-finals in the Open Era, a fantastic achievement that has inspired so many. Wishing you the very best for the next round."
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also sent a congratulatory message to Fery, who has become the first wildcard to reach the semi-finals at SW19 for 25 years.
He wrote on X: "What a moment for Arthur Fery. From wildcard to Wimbledon semi-finalist, a brilliant performance on the biggest stage. Best of luck in your next match!"
Fery's superb victory was watched by Queen Camilla in the royal box and she was seen applauding as the crowd acclaimed the star at the end of the match.
Fery will now take on second seed Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals on Friday (10.07.26) and is determined to keep his extraordinary Wimbledon run going.
Asked how he would prepare for the match, the tennis star said : "I don’t know as I’ve never been in this position before.
"I’m just going to keep going, I’ve been doing a great job for the last 10 days I’m just going to keep going and see where that takes me."
Fery - who will celebrate his 24th birthday on the day of the men's singles final on Sunday (12.07.26) - explained that Camilla had been waiting to congratulate him after the match.
He said: "The Queen, she was waiting for me at the end of the match.
"She congratulated me. I told her how much of an honour it was for me to play in front of her. She just said congratulations, keep going.
"I told her it was my birthday on Sunday, so it would be great to play the Wimbledon final on my birthday."
