Jodie Sweetin doesn't think Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen "really loved" their movie careers.

The 40-year-old twins shot to fame when they shared the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House from the age of just nine months until it ended when they were eight and though they went on to star in a string of movies, including 1993''s Double, Double, Toil and Trouble, Passport to Paris in 1999, Our Lips Are Sealed in 2000, and New York Minute in 2004, they have largely retreated from the spotlight and are focused on their fashion empire The Row.

Jodie - who was on the show during her "formative years" of five to 13 - insisted the cast are all on "good terms" with the twins but understand why they opted not to return for the Netflix revival series Fuller House, which aired between 2016 and 2020.

She said on Black Eyed Peas star Taboo's Comics and Kicks podcast: “Everyone’s on good terms with them, but they were eight years old when this show stopped.

“Then they did all of those movies and all that stuff that I don’t know that they really loved doing all the time.

“So I think, for them, they walked away from all of us at eight years old.

“Eight and earlier, you don’t remember all that much.”

“They have a different relationship to being on set all the time. They might not remember being two years old and having, you know, us all carrying them around and doing this stuff, but I do. That’s not their thing.”

Jodie noted Mary-Kate and Ashley went on to pursue fashion as they got older because they “don’t want attention” because acting is “not their thing.”

She added: “They had so much and they were so invaded and so for public consumption, I totally understand why they don’t want to do [Fuller House]."

The first episode of Fuller House gave a nod to Mary-Kate and Ashley's career direction.

Jodie recalled: “It's the first episode of Fuller House and the whole family's back. We're standing in the kitchen and we're talking about all being together again.

"And then we say something about, 'Well, if only Michelle were here, or Michelle's off running her fashion empire in New York.' And then we all just kind of looked to the camera like, 'Uh-huh.’”

She stressed the joke wasn't a dig, just an acknowledgement of their absence.

She said: “You have to address it. You can’t just not say anything.”
