Cheri Oteri recently underwent surgery for breast cancer.

The 63-year-old actress was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) - which Mayo Clinic says is a "very early form" of the disease, where the "cancer cells are confined inside a milk duct in the breast" and "haven't spread into the breast tissue" - but she "caught it really early".

Appearing on the latest episode of 51-year-old Chelsea Handler's Dear Chelsea podcast, Cheri noted that "everything looks normal and fine" following a second lumpectomy.

But the Scary Movie star - who had her first lumpectomy "a month ago" - urged listeners to get a "second opinion" after her first doctor "suggested something way more aggressive".

Cheri's friends, including former First Lady Jill Biden, 75, supported her through the health ordeal.

Jill, who has been at the helm of the Biden Breast Health Initiative since 1993, met Cheri at a recent Milken Institute dinner, and the latter said it was "so serendipitous" because she had just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Cheri recalled: "I'm sitting with all these women, all of these accomplished, powerful women, in all these different occupations in Biden Women’s Healthcare, and there were investors there. And I’m just listening to everybody speak.

"And it was the weirdest thing because I was just diagnosed with DCIS, with breast cancer."

Speaking of her friend's invite, the Saturday Night Live alum continued: "I’m sitting there quiet, and I’m like, 'This is so serendipitous."

Cheri went on: "And I’m listening to all these women, and then at the end, Jill came up to me, and we were saying goodbye, and I told her that I was just diagnosed, and she said, 'When is your surgery?’ And I said, 'The 26th.'

"And she said, 'All right, you’re gonna get tired of me … I’m going through this with you.' This woman, before my surgery, after my surgery, she goes, 'I am with you on this.' I was blown away."

Cheri - who urged people to "get your mammogram" - said Jill has a "huge heart" and is a "beautiful human being".

The Happy Place cast member added: "So I never felt so supported by my friends, my girlfriends ...

"Who would have thought I'd have Jill Biden constantly calling me and texting me, 'Are you OK? What [did] they say?'"

Jill's husband, former US President Joe Biden, 83, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2025, and it has since spread to his bones.
