Species actor Anthony Guidera dies aged 65 after weeks on life support
American actor Anthony Guidera - who starred in movies like The Godfather Part III, Species and The Postman - has died at the age of 65.
Species star Anthony Guidera has died at the age of 65 after spending weeks on life support.
The American actor collapsed at his home in Southern California and was rushed to hospital on May 11 as his heart suddenly stopped beating.
Guidera spent three weeks on life support but his wife Valerie made a decision to take her husband off the machines and bring him home so he could have a natural death.
The Godfather Part III star died last Saturday (06.06.26), but his official cause of death is still undetermined as doctors do not know what triggered his heart to stop beating.
In a post made to Facebook, Valerie announced Anthony's death admitting she was "devastated" to lose her husband.
She wrote: "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Anthony. We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible, taking each moment as it comes.
"Please hold this eternal light in your hearts and our family in your prayers."
Valerie made numerous posts about her life with Anthony and their love for their son Nick on Facebook.
Last Father's Day, Valerie described Anthony as being “beyond a father, [but] a true influencer of dreams and an elevated foundation for love and the higher path".
Guidera's breakthrough movie role was playing a bodyguard named Anthony in the concluding part of Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather trilogy, released in 1990.
He had other notable roles in The Rock, The Postman and Armageddon, among other films.
Famously, Guidera and his co-star Natasha Henstridge won the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss in 1996 for their smooching scene in sci-fi flick Species.
In the 1995 movie, Henstridge plays extraterrestrial-human hybrid Sil who escapes from a research laborarory and must be tracked down before she successfully mates with a human male.
Guidera's television roles included appearances in Renegade, Baywatch, Angel and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
