Hannah Waddingham has an "ongoing love-hate relationship" with Jason Sudeikis' way of working.

The 51-year-old actress has reprised her role as Richmond FC chair Rebecca Welton for a fouth series of Ted Lasso and she admitted filming requires patience and "give-and-take" because of the show's co-creator - who plays the titular soccer manager - and his habit of rewriting scenes during filming.

Asked if filming had run more smoothly amid reports the third season was delayed in part due to Jason's numerous rewrites, Hannah told Variety: “There’s always going to be a bit of give-and-take within a scene, because of the nature of how Sudeikis works.

“He hears it in the room, and then we tweak. With that boy, you’ve got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes it last minute.”

Hannah is aware some fans would love to see a romantic connection between Rebecca and Ted but she is very happy with their platonic relationship.

She said: “I love that we buck against the norm. And they are undoubtedly soulmates, but that can mean a myriad of things.

“I love all the relationships in it.”

While season three had initially been planned as the end of Ted Lasso, Hannah always suspected it would be back.

She said: “Because that’s too much of a cliffhanger to be had. But I’m so glad it has....

“I love the positivity in it. I am blessed that I am in this AFC Richmond family.”

And the actress admitted the idea of never playing Rebecca again felt "like losing a pal".

The cast are very close and Hannah admitted it would be "odd" if she didn't hear from at least one of them in a week.

She said: “I was chatting to Brett Goldstein yesterday."

Brett, who plays Roy Kent, worried he came across as a "stalked" when he first met the Game of Thrones actress at a script reading for Ted Lasso.

He said: “I’d seen her in a number of musicals before I met her.

“I was so excited to work with her that I probably came across as a stalker at the first read through. Luckily, I didn’t scare her off. I am a huge Hannah stan.”
