Cynthia Nixon has paid tribute to her “butch” wife while marking their 14th wedding anniversary.
The 60-year-old actress took to her Instagram page to share a sweet snap of herself and Christine Marinoni, as she insisted that finding love with the education activist “was the best thing I ever did”.
She wrote: “My wife Christine and I have been together for 22 years but today is our 14th wedding anniversary.”
Cynthia, who has two children with ex-husband Danny Mozes and son Max with Christine, added: “Falling in love with Christine was the best thing I ever did (next to having our children).
“To celebrate our anniversary here are some photos of Aunt Ada falling in love with some lovely butch woman who managed to wander into The Gilded Age!”
In other pictures on the post, Cynthia - who sported the curly hairdo her The Gilded Age character Ada is famous for - was seen planting a kiss on her wife’s cheek, as they both looked happily into the camera.
The comments section on the Instagram post was immediately filled with remarks from Cynthia’s famous friends, including her Sex and the City co-star Mario Cantone.
He wrote: “Happy Anniversary to both of you!! All my love and to many many more years.”
Another familiar name to comment was children’s favourite Miss Rachel, who commented: “ Happy Anniversary!”
While Orange is the New Black actress Uzo Aduba added: “Happy Anniversary to you both. Here’s to 1,000 years!!”
Cynthia and Christine first met in 2001, and became firm friends before their friendship turned into a romantic relationship following the screen star’s divorce from Danny.
Christine had long been open about her sexuality, but their romance was Cynthia’s first with a woman.
Speaking previously about their relationship, Cynthia explained: “When we started seeing each other, Christine kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for me to panic about what this would mean—to my career or to myself—as if somehow I just hadn't noticed that she was a woman.
“And then she met my mother, and that was when she stopped worrying about it!”
The couple got engaged in 2009, but didn’t tie the knot until same-sex marriage was legalized in the state of New York.
