Jason Biggs’ split from wife Jenny Mollen ‘sparked by dramatic weight loss and mounting career pressures’
A source says Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen’s divorce was sparked by the actor’s weight loss transformation and work pressures.
Jason Biggs’ dramatic weight loss and mounting career pressures are said to have created tension in his marriage to Jenny Mollen before the couple confirmed they were divorcing after 18 years together.
The 48-year-old American Pie actor and Jenny, 46, announced their separation on Thursday (14.05.26) following months of speculation about difficulties in their relationship.
Now, according to a report by the Daily Mail, Jason’s recent health transformation, combined with the stress of directing his first feature film, contributed to strain between the pair.
A source told the publication: “Jason definitely has changed since his weight loss transformation. He lost a lot of weight and it definitely helped boost his ego.”
The insider added: “I don’t think he was wanting to lose that much weight but it happened and he’s proud of the results like anyone who lost 40 pounds or more would be.”
Jason and Jenny, who married in 2008 and share two sons – Sid, 12, and Lazlo, eight – have long been known for their candid discussions about marriage, parenting and addiction on social media, podcasts and television appearances.
The actor recently discussed his weight loss publicly during an interview with Page Six, revealing he had initially decided to improve his health after experiencing cholesterol problems.
He said his “cholesterol came down 70 points” after changing his diet and fitness routine.
The actor, who remains best known for playing Jim Levenstein in the hugely successful American Pie franchise alongside Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan and Eugene Levy, has recently attempted to broaden his career beyond comedy acting.
Last year Jason completed work on his directorial debut, Untitled Home Invasion Romance, while he and Jenny also appeared together in Amateur Night and the rebooted food and entertainment series Dinner and a Movie.
The source also claimed to the Mail the pressure surrounding Jason’s directing ambitions created additional difficulties inside the marriage.
They said: “He had his first big directorial debut last year, and that was a really stressful time for him.
“Trying to remain in the spotlight and continue to put out projects that are just as entertaining as what he was known for previously can be a difficult task.”
The insider added: “But he has this reputation and he knows that and he puts pressure on himself to do things that are going to get just as much attention. Jason has had more stress in his life than Jenny lately and I think that’s definitely caused a bit of a wedge.”
According to the Mail’s report, the couple had also attended therapy together in an attempt to save the relationship.
The source said: “I think if they didn’t do therapy, they would’ve split maybe two or three years ago.”
They added Jason and Jenny had been “truly a team” throughout much of their marriage despite ongoing “issues” between them “for a while now”.
