Savannah Guthrie to present Wordle TV show
Today show host Savannah Guthrie is to present a new TV show based on the popular word game Wordle, in her first new venture since the disappearance of her mother Nancy Guthrie earlier this year.
Savannah Guthrie is to host a TV game show based on Wordle.
The Today show presenter will make her first new onscreen venture since returning to air last month following the disappearance of her mother Nancy Guthrie in February with the new show inspired by the popular New York Times word game.
Savannah, 54, revealed the news on the Today show on Monday (11.05.26), explaining that the project has been in the pipeline for a lengthy period but had been delayed because of her absence from the screen following her mother's disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her home in Arizona on February 1 and has not been seen since, with the authorities suspecting that she was a victim of a kidnapping.
Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon is to produce the Wordle show through his Electric Hot Dog company, with 30-minute episodes being filmed in Manchester, England, from next month before airing on NBC in 2027.
Savannah, who describes herself as an "avid" Wordle player, said: "We've been working on this for a really long time, and actually we just found out in February that we got picked up and we were supposed to shoot in March.
"I just want to say a quick thank you to NBC and to Jimmy and his production company and the New York Times and the studio, Universal. Because when everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said, 'We'll wait for you.'
"And Hollywood is a really tough business, as you know, and I didn't expect that and I just want to say thank you, it means so much to me."
Jimmy is confident that the Wordle show will be "a solid gamer for prime time".
The 51-year-old star said: "I feel very honoured to be working with Savannah Guthrie on this show. Savannah has that rare combination of intelligence, charm, and warmth that makes everyone feel instantly welcome. And she obviously knows how to host a show."
Savannah also revealed that she regularly discussed Wordle with Nancy and that she had shown the pilot to her mother last year.
The broadcaster said: "Everything is strange right now. It's strange to get up and do the Today show every day, and it's strange to say that I'm going to do a game show when your heart is broken.
"Nothing about that has changed, and it's not easy. But I'm determined to put one foot in front of the other. And this is a joyous thing."
