Rory McIlroy landed a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 by chance.

The 37-year-old golfer and Erica Stoll, his wife, appear in one scene in the new Devil Wears Prada movie, and Rory has now revealed how his cameo role came about.

He told the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce: "I won The Players' Championship last year and they asked me afterwards, 'What did you do last night to prepare?' I said, 'I had dinner and got back to the room and I watched The Devil Wears Prada.'"

Rory said that David Frankel, the director of The Devil Wears Prada 2, heard about the story and reached out to the sports star.

Rory said: "The director, David Frankel, somehow got wind of it, so the team reached out and said, 'Look, Dave was wondering if you'd want to do some sort of cameo.' I said to my wife Erica, 'Eh, what do you think?' and she's like, 'Yeah, absolutely!'"

Rory then asked if Erica could be included in the scene, too, and the producers agreed. The couple spent a day in New York filming what Rory called "the most unbelievable experience".

Asked whether he was becoming a "movie star", Rory replied: "I am not a movie star. If you watch me act, you can tell I am not a movie star."

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway recently revealed that she can "relate" to her Devil Wears Prada character.

The actress reprised the role of Andrea 'Andy' Sachs for the long-awaited film sequel, and Anne admits that she can relate to her on-screen character in one specific way.

Anne - who starred in the original movie in 2006 - told People: "I think we're both more confident."

Anne explained how Andy has evolved since the original film.

The Hollywood star - who appears in the new movie alongside Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep - said: "I think that 20 years ago Andy Sachs was really worried about getting it right and she really wanted to please her boss. And now, I think that she wants to be herself. And I relate to that."
