Princess Catherine, Prince William and children name baby kangaroo at Australia Zoo
The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, picked the name Cwtch for an eastern grey kangaroo joey at Australia Zoo, which is run by the Irwin family.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, William, Prince of Wales, and their three children have named a baby kangaroo at Australia Zoo.
The couple, along with Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, picked Cwtch, which means "cuddle" in Welsh, for an eastern grey kangaroo joey.
Robert Irwin - who helps to run Australia Zoo in Queensland, with his mom, Terri Irwin, 61, and 27-year-old sister Bindi Irwin - thanked the Wales' for deciding a name in a video posted on Instagram on Thursday (07.05.26).
Sitting beside Cwtch, her mom and another kangaroo, the 22-year-old wildlife conservationist said: "I'm very proud to announce that my friends, the Wales family, helped us to name our beautiful new joey.
"Our new joey's name is Cwtch, which is Welsh for 'cuddle', the absolute perfect name for a joey kangaroo 'cause at this age, they love a cuddle, and they spend most of their time inside that pouch with their mom."
Robert then gave a special mention to Catherine, 44, and 43-year-old William's children.
He continued: "I want to say a particular thank you to Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte for your help in finding this little one a brilliant name."
And he thanked the Wales' for their wildlife conservation efforts,
Robert added: "It is so important that we conserve all of our animals, including the icons, the kangaroos. These guys play a very important role in the Australian bush, and out there in the ecosystem, they are just crucial.
"With all of the animals that we support and all of the wildlife conservation efforts that we have around the world, it's all about making sure we give back to the wildlife, and the wild places where they live."
The zookeeper concluded the video with: "So, Cwtch is now proudly part of our family here, at Australia Zoo."
Terri declared it "so special" that Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte, as well as Prince William, Prince George, and Prince Louis, decided the name Cwtch for the joey in the post's comments section.
And fans of the royals and the Irwins also reacted, as one penned: "What a great and thoughtful name. (sic)"
A second supporter typed: "Awww my goodness what a little cutie. And great job Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on coming up with this adorable name. (sic)"
And a third follower wrote: "We saw Cwtch yesterday! And we're all the way from Wales too. (sic)"
