Victoria Beckham has insisted she simply wanted to be "the best mum" while "Brand Beckham" happened naturally.

The fashion icon has seemingly opened up about her feud with son Brooklyn, 27, months after he stunned the world when he released a statement in January, in which he accused Victoria and his dad David of prioritising their brand above everything else.

He also detailed shocking claims, including that Victoria had danced “inappropriately” with him at his wedding to model Nicola Peltz in 2022, and made it clear he had no desire to reconcile with his “performative” family - including his siblings Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14 - and instead he and Nicola wanted to focus on “peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family”.

Speaking to Emma Grede on her Aspire podcast, the former Spice Girls star appeared to address the family fall out, as she began by reflecting on the ‘Brand Beckham’ fascination.

She said: “When David and I first met it was never our intention to start a brand. People talk about ‘Brand Beckham’ - that has happened so organically.

"When I first met David, I mean he was a Brylcreem boy. So David was Adidas and Brylcreem and Pepsi and I was in the Spice Girls and that's where I learnt so much about how to build a brand and marketing.

'While he was doing Brylcreem and Adidas, the Spice Girls were doing Walker's crisps, Pepsi, Chupa Chups lollies, deodorant…

“So when, people talk about ‘Brand Beckham’, that was never something that we even discussed. We don't have any deals together. David does what David does, I do what I do.

“That's the way it's always been. We have very different interests. I think it was the outside world that really talked about Brand Beckham, that's never really how we saw it. We're just doing what we do.”

Victoria went on to reflect on how raising her children in the public eye has affected them, after Brooklyn’s claim that he grew up with “overwhelming anxiety”.

She continued: “Our children have had a very different upbringing to myself and David and I think the world is also a very different place now than what it was when they were younger. We've always tried to protect the children as much as we can, we've always been very close.

“Ultimately, we want the kids to be hard-working and kind. I've always wanted to be the best mum that I could be and look after the kids. I also feel it's been part of my job to really help them fulfil their full potential. It's never about being pushy, it's about being there to support.”

Victoria added that it’s “very different parenting adult children to parenting smaller children” as she said she’s “just trying to do the best that I can”.

She insisted: “It's my job to make sure my kids are the best versions of themselves.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Victoria also spoke about how her children are continuing their family brand with their own business ventures - from Cruz’s music career to Harper’s skincare line, which was inspired by the teenager’s own battle with acne.

Victoria recalled her daughter had told her: "'I want to create a brand because I know what I want and I don't want other people to have to go through what I have been through.'"

She added: “I’m so proud of all my children, but you know Harper is very ambitious, she's very appropriate but I don't know what I expected to be honest.

“I mean, she's been sitting on my lap taking part in beauty development meetings ever since she was little.”

The remarks follow a period of heightened public attention on the Beckham family, driven by Brooklyn’s explosive social media statements about his family he made earlier this year.

In posts shared on Instagram, Brooklyn addressed ongoing tensions with his parents, writing: “I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.”

He added: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
