King Charles' US visit in flux following shooting
It's currently unclear whether King Charles will travel to the US for his planned tour.
King Charles' planned visit to the US is in flux following the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The 77-year-old monarch and Queen Camilla, his wife, are due to travel to Washington, D.C., on Monday (04.27.26) for a four-day visit, but their plans are now up in the air, following the shooting at the Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night.
A spokesperson told People: "His Majesty is being kept fully informed of developments and is greatly relieved to hear that the President, First Lady and all guests have been unharmed.
"A number of discussions will be taking place throughout the day to discuss with U.S. colleagues and our respective teams to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact on the operational planning for the visit."
The King and Queen's trip to the US was announced earlier this month.
A statement posted on Instagram read: "On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America. Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the UK and the US, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence."
Despite the shooting, US President Donald Trump is confident that the King and Queen will still travel to the US.
Speaking to Fox, Trump - who was in attendance at the Correspondents' Dinner - said: "He's coming, and we're going to have a great time.
"He's really a fantastic person and a tremendous representative."
Trump, 79, has been highly critical of the UK government and other allies over their response to the ongoing war with Iran.
And the billionaire businessman - who survived an assassination attempt in July 2024 - previously suggested that the monarch's visit could help to rebuild relations between the US and the UK.
He told the BBC: "I know [the King] well, I've known him for years. He's a brave man, and he's a great man."
