Miley Cyrus found child stardom to be "awkward".

The 33-year-old pop star rose to fame as Hannah Montana on the hit Disney show between 2006 and 2011, but Miley admits that she struggled to cope with the intense scrutiny and pressure.

She told Variety: "Being recognisable as a teen going through different phases and stages was sometimes awkward, but that’s what helped me relate to the kids watching at home."

Miley had "experiences with drugs and alcohol" after leaving Hannah Montana and seeking to reinvent her public image. But the chart-topping star managed to get sober amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and Miley admits that the decision has changed her life.

Reflecting on her experience of childhood fame, Miley said: "It’s no surprise that I had my experiences with drugs and alcohol.

"I was so used to living at a high, and I don’t think I ever learned how to come down from that. Now, through a sober lens, I can have compassion and understanding for myself."

Meanwhile, Miley previously confessed to being "specifically non-specific in everything".

The singer rubbished the perception that she's always certain of herself and everything in her life, admitting that she can change her mind "drastically" at any moment.

Miley told Vogue: "I think maybe is more of a powerful word than we give it credit for. Because when you block something with a yes or a no, then you don’t invite in something that could be a maybe.

"I think people associate me with being a very definitive person. But actually, in regard to spirituality, I am kind of specifically non-specific in everything. At any moment, anyone or anything could change my mind drastically."

Miley also revealed that she loves escaping the pressures of fame by performing household tasks.

She said: "I am joyful when I’m organising and cleaning - it never feels like a task to me.

"Everything I do in my life is a little bit intense, but it has to be holistic. And that’s why my eras, they’re not a costume, they’re actually like a metamorphosis or a true evolution for me personally.

"I’ve even gained the name Queen of Pristine because in every corner, every drawer, every friendship, every family dynamic, everything is just getting an upgrade in the cleanup."
