Selena Gomez received "the sweetest" handmade gift from her friend Taylor Swift for her 30th birthday.

The Only Murders in the Building actress' husband Benny Blanco was left stunned when his wife pulled a piece of art out of storage and revealed it had been produced by the Fate of Ophelia singer - who she met when they were dating Nick and Joe Jonas respectively in 2008 - because he assumed it had been made by a well-known painter.

Speaking during Selena's appearance on his Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Benny said: “I was fully blown away yesterday — she pulls out this piece of art, and I'm like, 'Ah, this is perfect for the living room,' and I said, 'Who made this painting?'

"It’s like one of the best paintings I’ve ever seen.”

Selena, now 33, revealed Taylor to be the mystery artist, and pointed out the deeply personal touches in the painting.

She said: “She did it on an actual cloth, and she painted a beautiful lake.

"It was at night, and the moon was there and in the stars…she painted our exact star signs. So for hers [Sagittarius] and mine [Cancer], and she said, ‘Here’s to the next 30 years,’ handsewn, ‘From Taylor to Selena,’ and it was all sewn by hand, so she had it painted or she painted it.

“It’s just, instead of writing, ‘Here’s to the next 30 years,’ or printing it, she sewed every letter. It was the sweetest gift.”

During her appearance on the podcast, Selena confirmed she was the inspiration behind Dorothea, a song on Taylor's 2020 album Evermore.

She said: "'Dorothea is about me.

"I feel like a lot of huge moments that were self-defining, from relationships to family to love to hate, all of it in between—we were figuring it out because I was 15 and she was 18.

"We didn't really know what was going on. We've never seen each other any differently. When I listen to it, I'm so impressed by how it's eloquently put."

And Selena revealed she had also inspired another of 36-year-old Taylor's songs which hasn't been released.

She said: "There's this song that Taylor wrote about us and it was called Family.

"It was over, easily, a decade ago, insinuating in the lyrics, without quoting, it is basically saying you have these amazing dreams. You want to be in a movie, in every crowd I see you.

"Then her part was, you believe in my stupid dreams, like playing stadiums.

"Now, when I listen to those songs, both of those things have happened for us. And that's really sweet because back then, she was just like, 'I wrote this song about us and it was just our story,' and it was the sweetest thing."
