Alfonso Ribeiro will "always be there" for James Van Der Beek's kids following the actor's death.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star has been left devastated following the loss of the Dawson's Creek actor - who died this week three years after being diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer back in August 2023 - and he's now promised to support James' wife Kimberly and the couple's six children as they navigate life without him.

In a post on Instagram, Ribeiro wrote: "I’m so broken right now with the passing of my friend @vanderjames today. He was my true friend brother and life guide.

"I was with him through this horrible journey to beat cancer. His family and friends went on this roller coaster ride.

"The highs when it looked like he had it beat to the breaking lows of it coming back. I’ve learned so much from james.

"He and @vanderkimberly changed my life. I will forever be in debt for all they’ve given me and my family. He will live forever in my heart. I will always be there for their children."

Ribeiro went on to insist he will always cherish his role as godfather to James' daughter Gwen and admitted he sees his pal as a "guardian angel" who will look after him.

He added: "I will always hold my role as Gwen’s Goddie daddy as one of the most important roles of my life. I love you James and know I have a guardian angel watching over me.

"Being able to say goodbye this weekend will always live with me. RIP my brother. RIP."

The tribute comes after it was revealed Kimberly Van Der Beek has launched a crowdfunding page to help them cover their expenses after her late husband's cancer battle put a "significant financial strain" on her family.

A message posed on the GoFundMe page reads: "James Van Der Beek was a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, James passed away on February 11, 2026 leaving behind his devoted wife, Kimberly, and their six wonderful children.

"Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care.

"In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds. They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time. The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead.

"Your generosity will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children’s education. Every donation, no matter the size, will help Kimberly and her family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives. Thank you for considering a gift to support them."

The fund had topped $1 million by Thursday morning (12.02.26).
