Elle Fanning hopes to have children some day.

The 27-year-old star's latest movie Sentimental Value follows two sisters who reunite with their estranged father and she explained that having her own brood is something she "definitely" wants to do in the future as the picture taught her important lessons about family dynamics.

Elle told People: "It's kind of the beauty of this film, the universal themes that people are relating to, and it is about family that is broken and the traumas that are passed down through families that sometimes you don't realise, but we all have them.

"There's a kind of healing power of art. I don't know if something can be completely healed all the way."

She added of the film: "It doesn't tie everything up into a perfect bow, but maybe it will open the door for understanding and forgiveness, and so that's the beauty of it for me."

Meanwhile, Elle is set to star in her first movie alongside her older sibling Dakota Fanning in the upcoming flick The Nightingale and is optimistic that their family bond will aid their on-screen performances.

The Maleficent star said: "I think we're going to have to be fellow actors on set, but of course we are playing sisters in the film that we're going to be working on together, so we have to bring a little bit of that."

However, Dakota revealed recently that she was feeling "nervous" for the pair's first film together.

The 31-year-old actress said: "For a while, (Elle and I) were very conscious of carving our own paths and being really selective about the things that we did together.

"We don't feel that pressure anymore. We've established that we're two different people with two different journeys.

"It's best to be able to come together now. We're very excited about (The Nightingale). A little nervous, but excited."

Dakota previously suggested that starring in a movie together as siblings would make their bond "totally unbreakable".

She told Extra: "It's almost like we're sharing that last little piece of ourselves with each other of how we are on a set and how we are as actors and getting to share that with each other…

"So, I think we'll be totally unbreakable after."
