Zooey Deschanel isn't in a rush to marry her fiancé Jonathan Scott.

The 45-year-old actress got engaged to the Property Brothers star in Scotland in 2023 but insists that the pair aren't a hurry to walk down the aisle.

Zooey told People magazine: "We've been together for so long, so it's not like we're like, 'We gotta get married.'

"I'd rather find the right place, the right place and situation, so that it's really special and fun."

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year for Zooey – who starred alongside Will Ferrell in the 2003 festive classic Elf – and she has been obsessed with the holiday since she was a child.

The New Girl star said: "I've loved Christmas ever since I was a kid.

"It was my favourite holiday and a very important part of my childhood. I love pretty much every Christmas thing."

Zooey recently joked that she could steal Mariah Carey's Queen of Christmas crown as she has made two Christmas movies and two festive records.

Speaking to E! News, she quipped: "Look, I'm just — I'm just stating facts here. I have two Christmas movies out and two Christmas records.

"Does Mariah have two Christmas movies? I'm just wondering."

Zooey – who has children Elsie, 10, and Charlie, eight, with her ex-husband Jacob Pechenik - later stressed that she is happy to let Mariah keep the moniker.

She added: "No, I love Mariah. She is the Queen of Christmas."

Jonathan had previously revealed that he and Zooey were having "too much fun" to plan their wedding.

The 47-year-old star said earlier this year: "We've just been having so much fun travelling with the kids and filming this show and stuff.

"So no, we have not actually made any plans yet, which, it's been two years now since I proposed."

When they do get around to planning the ceremony, Jonathan and Zooey intend to keep matters "intimate".

He said: "Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time.

"We want to keep it very, very intimate."
