Elizabeth Hurley only drinks alcohol as an "absolute treat" nowadays.

The 60-year-old actress and model tries to "exercise and eat healthily" and abstain from booze as much as she can, but when she does have a tipple she has found her body cannot process alcohol as well as it used to her during her younger years.

She told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I think probably because of my work with the breast cancer foundation, I've really listened to what they've said about health.

"Of course, when you're really looking after your health, you tend to look better at the same time.

"They definitely advise us not to carry any excess weight, and to exercise and eat healthily, and they advise against alcohol, so I try to follow those guidelines as much as I can.

"I don't drink much alcohol at all. I've also found that as I've got older, my body processes it less well than it did when I was younger. I only drink alcohol as an absolute treat now."

Elizabeth - who is dating musician Billy Ray Cyrus - tries to listen to science when it comes to drinking alcohol.

She added: "It is proven your body processes alcohol at a much slower rate as you age, and your liver needs a little more help."

While Elizabeth tries her best to stay in shape, the star admitted last month she hasn't been to the gym "for decades".

She told Hello! magazine: "I haven’t set foot in a gym for decades and don't work out per se, but I'm very active by nature and rarely sit still.

"When I'm at home, I spend all day wrestling my garden into submission, so by default, I bend, stretch and lift things all day long.

"I have a tool shed for which only I have a key, full of my 'lady tools'. My favorite is a mini leaf-blower that Joan Collins and her husband gave me. I use it every day."
