Kate Beckinsale has thanked the cast and crew of her latest movie for "holding her up" during "tough" days away from her sick mother.

The actress has been looking after her mom Judy as she battles cancer but she's been having to spend time apart from her as she's been busy working on a new film project - and Kate has now applauded her co-workers for helping her through the difficult shoot.

In a post on Instagram, Kate shared pictures from the set and wrote: "It’s a wrap. Thank you to our extremely special cast and crew of this unique and exciting film, and those extra special angels who held me up during a tough time for me to be shooting long days away from my mama. You know who you are.

"I won’t forget the kindness , the laughs or the fart gags. Love you x ps sorry about the 'anticipation' twice . I’m tired x."

Kate hasn't given any more details about the project.

The post comes after the actress revealed she had to spend Mother's Day working so she arranged a special outing for her mom before the big day.

In a previous post on Instagram, she wrote: "So we had our Mother’s Day yesterday because I am working today. Any journey you are on, I am on it with you, as you have always been with me ….

"You’ve been mum, dad, second parent to [daughter] Lily, prohibitor of my being allowed to get bubblegum out of a machine (because it’s common, apparently), partner in crime, teacher of how to lose one’s mind if someone rustles their sweets too loudly in the cinema, best friend, keeper of precious things, including my heart - and my God ,we have been through some s*** together.

"I love you, I admire you, you occasionally drive me mad as I do you, and I’m here for all of it . We may have lost our two boys but we’ve still got each other and I’m hanging on tight. I love you, mama … Happy Mother’s Day."

She went on to add: "And for my friends (and anyone else) who are grieving today, whether their mum is dead, or lost in dementia, or estranged or somehow absent in a painful way - my heart is with you.

"You know who you are - including the people who send me such kind and painful messages about their losses and sadnesses - lots of love to all of you on a day that is joyful for so many and painful for so many."
