Drew Barrymore has insisted the viral moment in which Martha Stewart pushed her away while she was being touchy during an interview was a bit of fun.

The actress turned daytime TV host, made headlines over the incident in November 2024, when Martha, 83, appeared on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’.

They pair were discussing what makes the domestic guru feel “soft and gooey” on the inside, but when Drew, 49, caressed the showbiz veteran’s back and arm, the lifestyle mogul quickly pushed her away, joking: “You’re the wrong gender.”

Drew fell back on the couch and replied: “I know… although, the way it’s going with men, though, Martha, I’m not so sure anymore.”

Drew has now said about the exchange on the ‘Watch What Happens Live’ show: “You know what? I think she was just teasing.

“I think she really does like me. I think the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it, because when I first was getting to know her, I was like, I don’t think she likes me, but I think I broke through. She doesn’t dislike me!”

Drew interview style, which often includes close physical proximity to her guests, has previously been a topic of discussion.

She was previously called out for being “cringey” when she held Oprah Winfrey’s hand and stroked her arm during a December 2023 interview.

But the ‘50 First Dates’ actress is unapologetic about her touchy nature.

She admitted in a December segment on her show: “I’m so touchy! People have to warn me. They’re like, ‘Back off a little bit.’ I’m like, ‘Why?’”

When ‘Watch What Happens Live’ host Andy Cohen asked Drew about her habit of sitting “pupil to pupil” with her guests, she confessed, “I can’t actually control it. I got focus-grouped when we launched, and it was not good. It was awful.

“I’ve been warned, but I don’t take the advice.”
