Lucy Liu "almost burst into tears" when her son saw her on the big screen for the first time.
The 56-year-old actress has nine-year-old Rockwell Lloyd - whom she welcomed into the world via surrogacy in August 2015 - and recalled taking her to the premiere of one of her films for the first time, where she became emotional at his reaction.
Speaking on 'Live With Kelly and Mark', she said: "He was excited, and it was the first live-action that he's ever seen in general and seeing it that large his heart was beating.
"He was sweating. He was doing the full experience. He dropped the popcorn.
"I think he forgot that I was in the movie, and then, he saw me and started hugging my arm and said he was so proud of me. I almost burst into tears."
The 'Charlie's Angels' star - who is currently thought to be single but was engaged to Zac Helm for a short period of time in the early 2000s - explained her decision behind gestational surrogacy shortly after her son was born as she noted that her schedule stopped her from carrying the baby herself but hadn't realised just how "quickly" he would grow once he was actually here.
She told People: "It just seemed like the right option for me because I was working and I didn’t know when I was going to be able to stop.
"I decided that was probably the best solution for me, and it turned out to be great.
"I didn't realize how quickly babies progress. Very basic things that you just take for granted. They're just this little lump of flesh, and then all the sudden they're turning around, they're observing you and they're smiling and they're interacting. It's a magical experience."
