Robert De Niro "tries [his] best" with fatherhood.

The 81-year-old actor - who became a dad for the seventh time when he and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen welcomed daughter Gia into the world in April 2023 - thinks family can be "complex" but just hopes they are all "happy" in life.

He told The Sunday Times Magazine: "Oh God, they would all have a different answer. Family is so complex.

"I try my best, that’s all. I hope they’ll be happy."

The Hollywood star is also father to Drena, 57, and Raphael, 48, with his first wife Diahnne Abbott, twins Julian and Aaron, 29, with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, as well as Elliot, 26, and Helen, 13, with ex-wife Grace Hightower.

Robert, explained that he is an "early riser" and likes to spend the first part of the day watching YouTube with his youngest before feeding her.

He said: "I'm an early riser. I’ve got a 19-month-old baby. I spend my mornings watching [the YouTuber for toddlers] Ms Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle."

But when asked if he takes on the other parental job of changing diapers, he said: "No, no, but I used to!"

The 'Goodfellas' star previously revealed that he loves it when his brood is all together and enjoys going on family vacations with them.

He told People: “The fact that they’d all be together is everything to me."

Asked what his favourite thing to do with his children is, he replied: “Just being together, taking trips to warm places."

The 'Meet The Fockers' actor had also been imparting little pieces of wisdom his parents taught him about life to his children.

He said: “One thing I'd say to one of my younger kids is that there are things that I remember that [my parents, De Niro Sr. and Virginia Admiral] told me that you don't forget.

“Certain little truisms or whatever you want to call them.”

He continued: “Little examples of life saying, ‘If you do this, this is what you do. Always do this, do that.'

“I say, ‘You're going to remember what I just said to you, you're not going to forget it and it'll register with you and it will make an impact and a good one.

“So that I've found myself doing [that].”
