Kelly Ripa jumped off boat to prove she could 'fluently' communicate with dolphins
TV star Kelly Ripa has admitted she jumped off a boat into the ocean in an attempt to prove she was able to "fluently" communicate with dolphins.
Kelly Ripa once jumped off a boat thinking she could "fluently" communicate with dolphins.
The 53-year-old talk show host had recently filmed with the sea creatures in Miami while learning about the newest technological developments in communicating with animals, and she tried to showcase her 'skills' while celebrating a friend's birthday in Mexico.
Speaking on 'Live! with Kelly and Mark' alongside her husband Mark Consuelos, she recalled: "They rented a boat for sunset cocktails. All of a sudden in the water we were surrounded by wild dolphins...
"[I] had just done the show in Miami, and we'd gone to the Seaquarium and I swam with the dolphins. We were doing a taped piece where we communicate with the dolphins.
"So I, Kelly Ripa, jump into the water and I go, "I know how to talk to the dolphins!" I'm like, "I'm going to call them over!' "
The star's friends urged her to get back on board, pointing out that the dolphins weren't "trained", but she was determined to prove her point.
She added: "Our friend Brian was standing on the bow of the boat and he's going, 'Kel, get back in the boat. Those are wild dolphins, those aren't trained dolphins'.
"But, in my mind, I thought I could talk to the dolphins because I'd spoken so fluently to them."
Mark - who took over from Ryan Seacrest as his wife's co-host - previously spoke about sharing a “telepathy” with his wife about which topics are appropriate on the programme.
He told SiriusXM’s ‘The Jess Cagle Show’ with Julia Cunningham: “I think we’ve got a pretty good sense of what that line is. It’ll probably move back and forth a little bit, you know?
"But we haven’t had too many discussions about, ‘OK, well that’s off limits, right?’ I think it’s just kind of in our brains.
“We often have conversations with us just looking at each other, like, ‘Are we gonna do this?’ Or ’No, we’re not doing this. Of course we’re not doing this.’
“So we have… we have that telepathy that married couples after 27 years kind of do.”
