Shakira had been invited to the Met Gala "many times" before making her debut on Monday (06.05.24) night.

The 47-year-old Colombian pop star arrived at the annual fashion event at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and was thrilled to finally be there as she donned a custom-made Caroline Herrera number designed by Wes Gordon, all sticking to the theme of Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

She told US TV show Extra: "It's been amazing to work with Wes and his team and to be dressed by Carolina Herrera, which is a brand that is so inspiring because it was created by a woman, a Latina woman who is a symbol of female empowerment to me and my community so it is really amazing to be here. This is my first Met Gala. I've been invited many times but it never happened, there was always something. So finally, I was able to come and I'm so excited!"

The 'Objection!' hitmaker admitted that she felt "great" in the striking red dress and joked that if she had had a "love child" with the major fashion company then that probably would have been the result.

"There's so many people here. I feel great and I think that if Carolina Herrera the brand and I would've had a love child, this would have been it. This is where we meet."

Meanwhile, Shakira is gearing up to begin her 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' world tour, which will be in support of her latest studio album of the same name and is "very excited" to be hitting the road again this November.

She said: "I call it a chemical process in which I've transformed so many feelings into opportunities and now my tour starts. It's very exciting."
