Nick Grimshaw rushed to hospital on Matty Healy's wedding day after serious allergic reaction
Nick Grimshaw was "freaking out" after his eyes swelled, his throat became inflamed, and his nose "inflated outwards" hours before Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel tied the knot in Los Angeles on July 18.
Nick Grimshaw was rushed to hospital on the day of Matty Healy's star-studded wedding after suffering a serious allergic reaction.
The radio DJ was "freaking out" when his eyes swelled up, his throat became inflamed, and his nose "inflated outwards" after drinking a juice in his hotel room before The 1975 frontman, 37, and model Gabbriette Bechtel, 29, tied the knot at Castillo del Lago in Los Angeles on July 18.
On the latest episode of his and 48-year-old DJ Annie Mac's Sidetracked podcast, Nick, 42, added: "The hotel were freaking out because they were like, 'Oh, are you allergic to nuts?' And I was like, 'No.' And they were like, 'Can you breathe?' I was like, 'Yes.' And they’re like, 'Is your mouth closing up?' And I was like, 'Oh, now I think it is.'
"It was bad, I had to go to like the ER and have a f****** steroid shot on the day of the wedding."
The BBC Radio 6 Music Breakfast Show host felt "really weird", and his joints were "hurting" after having the steroid shot, while doctors "didn't know" what had caused his health scare.
Nick was told to "keep an eye on" his condition, avoid food and drink high in histamine, including cheese, nuts, and alcohol, and to "take it easy" at Matty and Gabbriette's wedding.
The Celebrity Gogglebox alum added that the "super helpful and super caring" pop star Charli xcx, 34, came to his rescue by getting her doctor to assess Nick.
Nick made it to Matty and Gabbriette's nuptials, but he "kept his sunglasses on" to avoid people seeing his swollen face.
A source told the Daily Mail that the Chocolate hitmaker and the beauty exchanged vows underneath the Hollywood sign just as the sun began to set.
The insider noted Gabbriette had walked down the aisle wearing "a beautiful white dress and they kissed at exactly 7 o'clock".
Photographs obtained by the outlet showed her dress had long sleeves and a fitted bodice with a long train and ruffled neckline, and she had a veil flowing down her back.
Matty - whose parents are former Loose Women panellist Denise Welch, 68, and 74-year-old Benidorm alum Tim Healy - wore a black tuxedo.
After the ceremony, he got on stage with his 1975 bandmates at the reception to perform for the guests.
