EastEnders' Matthew James Morrison stuggling to find work a year after axing from BBC soap
A year after Matthew James Morrison was axed from EastEnders, his acting work had dried up.
Matthew James Morrison is struggling to find more acting work a year after he was axed from EastEnders.
The 34-year-old actor played Felix Baker, who was behind the BBC soap's first drag queen, Tara Misu, for three years until bosses wrote the character out of the show in July 2025.
Matthew went on to land roles in theatre shows, but now acting work has dried up for him.
On a recent episode of the Miss Leigh Ding Fortunes podcast, hosted by drag queen Miss Leigh Ding, Matthew said: "I finished EastEnders, and I thought, you know, maybe something will come, maybe something might not come.
"For a lot of people who've left the show since I started, some of them have worked, some of them haven't worked."
The entertainer starred in the play Blue/Orange at the Greenwich Theatre, and then appeared in another stage show, Glorious!, which has just finished touring.
And now, Matthew is without acting work.
He said: "This is the first time since leaving EastEnders - I finished the tour just over a week ago - and I don't have anything lined up.
"And it feels like I'm stood in the desert just being like, 'What do I do next?'"
Suggesting some next steps, Matthew continued: "Do I work on an accent? Do I learn to ride a horse? Do I do what my mom's been begging me to do for 17 years and pass my driving lessons?
"Like what do I do next? What do I focus on? And, maybe, it is just to actually listen, be still, listen, throw caution to the wind. Start journaling for once."
EastEnders bosses reportedly felt "the time was right to say goodbye to Felix".
In March 2025, a source told The Sun newspaper: "It’s never an easy decision for bosses when they have to make the decision for a character to leave.
"Matthew has been great, but bosses felt the time was right to say goodbye to Felix."
A BBC spokesperson said they "wish him all the best for the future".
In 2022, Matthew said it was a privilege to play Tara Misu, the soap's first drag queen.
He explained: "I am blessed to have the opportunity to step into the heels of the fierce Tara Misu as part of my role on EastEnders.
"It’s a privilege to represent the LGBTQIA+ community and to showcase the creative art of drag to both viewers at home and the residents of Walford."
