Katherine Ryan lands new Top Trumps comedy game show on TLC
TLC has commissioned a new game show based on Top Trumps, with Katherine Ryan hosting.
Katherine Ryan is fronting a new series inspired by Top Trumps.
The 43-year-old comedian is joining forces with Joel Dommett and Jon Richardson, who will compete as team captains in a fresh format for TLC based on the beloved card game.
Katherine, who will present Top Trumps: The Comedy Pack, said: “Everyone knows Top Trumps, but no one has ever played it quite like this.
"We’re taking this iconic game and supersizing it into something bigger, louder and much funnier.
"And with Jon and Joel captaining rival teams, chaos is pretty much guaranteed."
The show, which is being produced by TalkbackThames with Naked, is getting an eight-episode run.
The comedian contestants will go head-to-head in a series of classic card face-offs, live studio challenges, and games of bluff.
Joel quipped: "Top Trumps and me have a lot in common - it’s fun, simple and older than you think.
"I used to get very excited playing Top Trumps back in the day, and now I get to play it on the telly with two famously un-excitable comedians Kathrine Ryan and Jon Richardson.
"It’s really gonna be a blast.”
Meanwhile, Jon insisted Top Trumps has always resonated with his personality.
He joked: "For too long the world has been led to believe that there are no good Trumps, so I'm delighted to be on a show that celebrates the very best of them.
"I'm a sucker for a game with clear rules and a winner at the end so Top Trumps has always made sense to me.
"Let's see whether careful planning can beat sheer enthusiasm once and for all.”
The announcement comes as TLC has confirmed Mock The Week has already been commissioned for three more series before the second run starts on September 13.
TLC has ordered 22 hour-long episodes across series three, four and five, with seven episodes airing from February 2027 before a summer and autumn run.
Dara Ó Briain will be back as host, while Rhys James is returning as a series regular.
Meanwhile, TLC has also commissioned Ed Gamble's panel show Unacceptable, and travel programme Zero Stars with Roisin Conaty and Sara Pascoe.
