Mo Gilligan will eat fried chicken three times a day for a month in a new Netflix documentary.

The 38-year-old comedian is to star in Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy - his first documentary for the streaming service - in a bid to investigate the world's fried chicken obsession.

The 96-minute film will see Mo embark on an "eye-opening journey" from South London to the United States to reveal the historical origins of fried chicken and the social, economic and industrial forces driving the mass consumption of it.

Netflix said: "Uncovering shocking revelations along the way, Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy encourages Mo to reckon with the unsettling realities behind his favourite takeaway, sparking greater curiosity about the origins of our food and a more informed approach to the choices we make about what we eat."

Black British comedian Mo will also confront negative stereotypes associated with fried chicken, and look into how the dish is marketed.

In 2021, Mo told how he had always been "fascinated" with how other cultures use chicken.

He told The Guardian newspaper: "I’ve always been surrounded by chicken: jerk chicken, curry chicken, brown stew chicken ... what you can do with chicken is so amazing.

"I tried to be pescatarian, but after six months, I just had to have a massive piece of jerk chicken.

"How other cultures use this meat fascinates me.

"If you think you’ve had everything with chicken, someone will show you something you’ve never had before."

Mo also admitted his favourite food was brown stew chicken, rice and peas, with salad and coleslaw.

He added: "Preferably cooked by my mum because I know my mum’s flavours so well.

"When people say, 'What would your death row meal be?' It would probably be that. It’s just comfort in food."

And he told how his own jerk chicken wings were his favourite dish to make.

He said: "That’s the one thing that people come over to my house and they’re like [surprised]: 'Oh, these are really nice! Have you made these yourself?' "

Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy is globally available on Netflix on Wednesday 5th August 2026
