Jenny Ryan has shown off a new throat scar after she underwent secret surgery.

The Chase quizzer took to social media to reveal the war wound, after she had her thyroid gland "chopped out" because it grew too big and was "causing some problems".

Jenny shared several snaps of her scar on Instagram, and she wrote in the caption: "Hello my lovelies. You might notice my new scar. You'd be hard pushed to not spot it, given it's right on the front of my neck.

"As much as I'd like to have an exciting and glamorous reason (old timey duel, Olympic fencing practice, near miss with guillotine) the reality is not so sexy. My thyroid gland made a bid for fame and got so big it started causing some problems so we* chopped it out."

Jenny - who is nicknamed The Vixen on the ITV quiz show - reassured fans she is OK and "healing nicely" after going under the knife.

She added: "I'm fine. Surgery was all good and the consultant is very happy.

"My voice still works and it's healing nicely.

"I had to stay quite still for a couple of weeks in case my head fell off** but we are grand now.

"Thanks to the head and neck gang and all the terrific people who looked after me at UCH. The NHS is beyond wonderful.

"See you around e.g. for @fingersbuzzers LIVE at Bolton Comedy Festival on 18 July

*Actual professional surgeons.

** Hyperbole. Let me have this bit of drama, please. (sic)"

ITV have wished Jenny well.

They commented: "Nothing wrong with being dramatic Jenny! Hope you feel better soon"

Jenny is no stranger to speaking openly about her health.

In January 2022, the star admitted she had been quiet on social media because she had struggling with "wobbly mental health".

She said on her TikTok account: "So I've not been doing much social media for a little while, that's because I've been struggling with my wobbly mental health.

"January is traditionally a really tough time for me, there's not enough daylight and you know politics is crazy.

"Mercury is in retrograde as well, so that's affecting not just me but pretty much everybody who has wobbly mental health.

"So please, please as a favour to me, will you reach out to a friend of yours, you may not of heard from them in a while they may have gone a bit quiet.

"It doesn't have to be a deep and meaningful chat, send them a meme that they'll link or a link to a TikTok or YouTube and it will have such a positive impact on somebody who is feeling down at the moment so do it for Jen."
