BBC Radio 2's Trevor Nelson taking 'a little break' from work amid 'health issues'
BBC Radio 2's Trevor Nelson has told his listeners why he has not presented his afternoon show this week.
BBC Radio 2 DJ Trevor Nelson is taking "a little break" from work because of "health issues".
The 62-year-old presenter has not been on their airwaves in his usual 2pm to 4pm slot this week as he is "concentrating on getting better".
On Friday (26.06.26), Trevor took to Instagram and penned: "I wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I’m going to be taking a little break from my work commitments.
"Some of you may already have noticed that I’ve not been on my daily Radio 2 slot this week.
"After a routine check-up I was advised to have some follow up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off. As I’m sure you can appreciate with health issues it’s important to deal with facts and not speculate.
"So I’m concentrating on getting better, being back to 100 per cent me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks. (sic)"
Lorna Clarke, the BBC's director of music, led the well-wishes for Trevor.
She said in a statement: "Everyone at BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra wishes Trevor a very speedy recovery and we all look forward to him returning to his shows whenever he is ready."
Trevor's celebrity pals and fans wished him a speedy recovery in the post's comments section.
Bob Harris, 80, who quit BBC Radio 2 earlier this month as his prostate cancer spread to his bones, typed: "All my love Trevor."
Presenter Richie Anderson, 38, who has filled in for Trevor on his afternoon show, wrote: "Get well soon Trevor. You’re so loved mate. Look after yourself xx (sic)."
Singer Beverley Knight, 53, stressed: "Health. First and always."
One supporter reacted: "Get well soon Trevor. You will be missed in the afternoons."
A second follower commented: "Wishing you a speedy recovery. Loads of love to you and your family. We’ll be waiting for you when you come back x x x (sic)."
And a third fan said: "Love and Prayers to you Trevor. Take it a day at a time."
On Tuesday (23.06.26), Trevor received a special gong at the annual TRIC Awards ceremony, which recognised his broadcasting career in radio and TV.
The entertainer has spent three decades at the BBC, starting at Radio 1 in 1996, where he presented the UK's first national R+B show before launching a R+B chart show at the station.
Trevor - who has worked at BBC Radio 1Xtra since 2007 - started his Radio 2 show in 2008, and he left Radio 1 in 2013.
