Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman are to reunite on TV to mark 25 years of The Office.

The pair co-starred in the BBC mockumentary, which was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and aired from 2001 to 2003.

The Office will turn 25 years old next month, and the corporation are to mark the special anniversary one of the most influential and acclaimed British comedies of all time with a special episode of Remembers, entitled Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman Remember...The Office.

In the new documentary, Martin and Mackenzie will share personal memories about their time on the show, behind the scenes stories, and reflect on the programme's enduring legacy and cultural impact.

The BBC sitcom was set in the offices of fictional paper company Wernham Hogg.

While it only aired for two series, it has become a global phenomenon and has spawned several international series, including a US series, also called The Office, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, with Steve Carell portraying main character Michael Scott.

In the new documentary, Martin and Mackenzie - who portrayed Tim Canterbury and Gareth Keenan respectively - will give their opinions on the US version of the show.

Martin will also tell the tale of what happened when he initially auditioned to portray Gareth.

Mackenzie will explain how he embraced one of TV's worst-ever haircuts, how Ricky - who played immature and arrogant Wernham Hogg general manager David Brent - came close to ruining filming on a daily basis, and what it was like to be at the heart of 'Office-mania' when the show was at its peak.

And the pair will share their favourite show moments.

Ricky made a film spin-off of the original UK series, titled David Brent: Life on the Road, which was released in 2016.

He previously told how he received an offer to make a The Office movie after just two episodes of the TV series.

Speaking to The Observer in 2016, he said: "I had a backlog of things I wanted to do next, and I didn't want to do a movie then.

"I was offered a movie after the second episode of The Office went on TV but I turned it down."

Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman Remember...The Office will be broadcast on Wednesday 8 July at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
