Coronation Street director Matt Hilton has become a dad.

Matt - who has helmed 96 episodes of the ITV soap since September 2014 - took to Instagram on Thursday (21.05.26) to share that he and his partner, Sofia, welcomed their bundle of joy into the world on May 18.

Matt posted an adorable black-and-white shot of his finger being gripped by the tot, with the caption: "On Monday 18th May at 15:32 I realised what it’s all about."

Matt - who has also worked on ITV's Emmerdale, Channel 4's Hollyoaks, and BBC's Casualty - did not reveal the newborn's identity, but a blue heart emoji at the end of the caption suggests that Matt and Sofia's baby is a boy.

Some of his soap colleagues rushed to the post's comments section to congratulate the couple.

Coronation Street's Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) penned: "Ah congratulations mate absolutely made up for you both (sic)."

Casualty star Melanie Hill (Siobhan McKenzie) typed: "Wonderful news congratulations Matt !!! (sic)"

Hollyoaks alum Ross Adams (Scott Drinkwell) wrote: "Aw Matt! Massive congrats."

And former Emmerdale entertainer Anthony Quinlan (Pete Barton) said: "Massive congratulations."

Anthony's partner, ex-Hollyoaks cast member Nikki Sanderson (Maxine Minniver), had been due to give birth on April 25, and the couple took to Instagram on her due date to reveal their son had already arrived.

Sharing a black and white photo featuring her tot's head of dark hair, but with his face not in the shot, they wrote in a joint post: "Happy due date little man.

“You blessed our lives a few days earlier than expected and filled our world with so much joy.

“Daddy and Mummy love you so much Son. (sic)"

The couple have yet to share any further details about the new arrival, including his name, but just days before making the announcement, Anthony revealed they were still considering options.

He told Emmerdale Insider on behalf of Which Bingo: "I do love traditional names - there’s something about them. Though there are probably seven or eight kids with the same traditional name in every school now, which makes it tricky.

"Interestingly, girl names came a lot more easily than boy names for us - they came much more naturally. But we’ve got a few shortlisted, and we’re going to wait until he’s here to see which one fits. It’s very exciting."
