Maya Jama has taken a £760,000 pay cut to appear on Celebrity Traitors.

The 31-year-old presenter was reportedly the first star approached to appear on the upcoming series of the gameshow and she and boyfriend Ruben Dias are such big fans, she jumped at the chance to take part, even though she would only get the BBC's reputed flat apearance fee of £40,000, a fraction of the £800,000 she gets for hosting Love Island.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Maya was top of the list for BBC bosses.

“They approached her first because they know that she pulls in a young audience thanks to her Love Island fame.

“She loved watching the first Celebrity Traitors series at home with boyfriend Ruben and is so excited to get filming.

“She can’t wait to do some fibbing and be as deceitful as possible to try to win it.

“It has worked out perfectly that she can go straight from the Scottish castle to the villa in Majorca to film the summer Love Island series in June.

“She was obsessed with Celebrity Traitors last year and the money was secondary to the taking part.”

Maya has shared a clip for the show teaser which revealed the line-up on Instagram.

She captioned her post: “Secret is out. Wish me luck.”

Maya will be joined at Ardross Castle in Scotland this week by the likes of Michael Sheen, Richard E. Grant, Miranda Hart, Ross Kemp, Bella Ramsey and James Blunt.

In addition, model Jerry Hall, Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Professor Hannah Fry, broadcaster Amol Rajan, actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, online prankster King Kenny, Industry star Myha'la, Heartstopper's Sebastian Croft and My Mad Fat Diary star Sharon Rooney are also taking part.

The line-up is completed by comedians Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Lycett, Joanna McNally and James Acaster.

Filming on season 2 of Celebrity Traitors - which will be hosted by Claudia Winkleman - starts this week, but the show won't broadcast until later this year.

The celebrities will be aiming to win a cash prize of up to £100,000, which will be donated to their favourite charity.
