Sheridan Smith confesses she was ‘too drunk’ to board flight in chaotic Florida ordeal
Reflecting on a past travel incident while she was still boozing, now-sober actress Sheridan Smith has confessed she was once removed from a flight for being “too drunk”.
Sheridan Smith was removed from a flight for being “too drunk”.
Recalling how airline staff refused her boarding and “left her behind” in Florida, the actress, 44, best known for Gavin and Stacey, The Royle Family and her Bafta-winning portrayal in Cilla, made the admission during an appearance on Alan Carr’s Life’s a Beach podcast.
Her interview comes as Sheridan continues her television work with BBC One drama The Cage, marking her latest return to the screen following a career that has spanned comedy, musical theatre and acclaimed dramatic roles including Mrs Biggs and I Fought The Law.
Alan, 49, who rose to prominence with TV’s Chatty Man show, prompted the discussion as he asked about missed flights.
Recalling the incident, Sheridan said: “Yeah. I went to Florida to watch my mate boxing. And they wouldn’t let me on the flight Alan.”
Alan responded: “Why? Too drunk? Oh, God.”
Sheridan then said: “I was too drunk. But I don’t drink now, so I can say this now. I can say it now and I can look back and laugh. But at the time, it was a nightmare because everyone else got on the flight. Oh, my God. I was left there!”
The conversation formed part of a wider interview in which Sheridan discussed her personal life and experiences during filming.
Sheridan also spoke about her time shooting the 2023 drama The Castaways, which streamed on Paramount+ and was filmed in Greece, with the story set partly in Fiji.
She played Erin, a woman investigating the disappearance of her sister Lori.
During production, Sheridan said she began a relationship with stuntman Alex Anlos following her separation from Jamie Horn, the father of her son.
She said: “I did have a holiday romance actually. I was filming in Greece and the stuntman – I’m giving so much away – he taught me to swim, so he was holding me. And the next thing we did have a bit of a romance – it’s an exclusive! It’s so romantic and it’s the heat and the bodies are all out!”
Sheridan had previously shared images from the set on Instagram.
In one post, she wrote: “Hanging out after stunt rehearsals with @that_stunt_dude Greece. This guy has made me look bad ass.”
In another, she added: “Love filming here in Greece. With my set bff @that_stunt_dude. I was a non-swimmer till we met!”
Sheridan and Jamie ended their relationship in 2021 after three years together.
The couple had met on Tinder in 2018 and became engaged shortly afterwards, before welcoming their son Billy, now five, in 2020.
