Kate Thornton was rushed to hospital after a horror fall in the bread aisle in a Tesco Express.

The former Xtra Factor host smacked her face on the floor and broke her shoulder as she tried to take a loaf off the shelf, and now the painful injury, which also caused Kate's lips to be stitched, has made recording her White Wine Question Time podcast a "bit of a challenge".

Kate, 53, said to kick off the latest episode of her show: "Here's a thing, I’ve broken my shoulder. Yeah, I fell over my own feet. There’s no kind of sexy showbiz story to this.

"I was going to get bread from Tesco Express, landed on my face, smashed my shoulder up, and I’ve also had to have my lips stitched, which has made recording a brand new episode for you a bit of a challenge, I’m going to be honest."

Kate's injury came three months after her "relentless and obsessive" stalker, James McCarthy, was handed a 12-month community order at Highbury Magistrates' Court, North London, after he sent the Greatest Hits Radio DJ 6,000 texts and emails.

The dad-of-four's obsession with Kate came in 2025 after she and her fellow broadcasters encouraged listeners to get in touch, and James even rocked up to her studios in London with books he had written.

In a police statement, Kate said the ordeal made her fear "going on public transport at night", and that it "increases your sense of vulnerability and panic".

The former BBC Radio 2 star acknowledged that "he’s unwell", but it did "impact my life".

Elsewhere, Kate previously shared her pain of being axed from The X Factor and replaced by Dermot O’Leary in 2006 after two years in the job.

Appearing on an episode of the In The Pink podcast with Natalie Pinkham, Kate said: "It hurt more that somebody that I considered to be a friend hadn’t been up front with me.

"It was very public. It was on the News at Ten. It was embarrassing, it was humiliating, and it kind of burnt for a bit. Then you process it, and you go 'I’m not letting this define me'."

But Kate bounced back from the pain, going on to land presenting gigs on the likes of ITV's This Morning, Lorraine and Loose Women.
