Jamie Bell will lead the cast of a new series of Peaky Blinders.
The Rocketman actor will take on the role of Tommy Shelby's son Duke in two upcoming new series for a story set 10 years after the recent spin-off movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
The cast will also include Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton, Silo's Jessica Brown Findlay, No Time to Die actress Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski in her debut TV role, though details of their characters have yet to be announced.
Peaky Blinders creator and writer Steven Knight, said: “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s. We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”
A synopsis for the programme states: "In this new era of Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy.
"At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby (Jamie Bell): older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous."
The new Peaky Blinders will be filmed in Birmingham and will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and on Netflix globally.
It was revealed in October that two new series of Peaky Blinders had been commissioned, telling the story of a new generations.
Steven said at the time: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story.
"Once again, it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz.
"The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride."
The two new series - produced by Kudos and Garrison Drama for BBC One and BBC iPlayer - will once again be filmed at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, added: "This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago, and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas.
"Steven has worked his magic once again, and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham.
"We are delighted to be working with Kudos, Garrison Drama and Netflix on this epic show. There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!"
