Rita Simons reveals why I'm A Celebrity... 'killed' her
Rita Simons took part in the 2018 series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!
Rita Simons' Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) "killed" her in I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!
The 49-year-old actress' neurodevelopmental condition - which causes inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity - made her struggle even more with living in the ITV show's Australian jungle with nothing to do and having a limited food supply.
Rita explained to Betway: "I can’t remember much because I was cold and grumpy. It was really hard. It was harder than I ever imagined, and the main thing that killed me was the boredom. It was the boredom, because I have ADHD.
"So, if you imagine, no phone, no food, no book, no pen, no paper, no TV, no radio, no clock. You don’t know the time.
"ADHD-wise, it killed me. And hunger-wise, it killed me."
Other than that, Rita reflects fondly on her I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! experience.
The star - who finished eighth - continued: "I’m really glad I did it, and I loved doing all the challenges and everything, but generally sitting for 24 hours in camp was like pulling teeth for me."
The 2018 series was co-presented by Declan Donnelly, 50, and 45-year-old Holly Willoughby - who covered for Ant McPartlin, 50, after he stepped away from TV work to focus on his health following a 20-month driving ban and a £86,000 fine after admitting drink-driving.
And Rita did not like it when Declan and Holly would enter the camp and reveal who would be doing the next gruesome Bushtucker trial or who had been voted out by the public.
Rita explained: "When they come into the camp smelling fresh of deodorant and perfume, you’re like, 'I hate you', because you’re just like a dirty scruff bag stinking of your life.
"You can literally smell what they ate the night before because you’re so food-deprived, and they cover their watches when they come in so you can’t see the time."
But the EastEnders alum said the pair were "delightful".
She added: "It’s a real mind-bender. But yeah, they’re lovely."
