Anne Robinson is to host a four-part series of You Be The Judge.

The former Weakest Link presenter will return to front the crime and justice show as Channel 5 has commissioned a full series after a successful one-off special aired last year.

You Be The Judge will reconstruct three real sentencing hearings in each episode and will allow viewers to compare their judgements of convicted criminals against the verdicts of real judges.

The series will also give audiences an insight into how sentencing works in England and Wales. Whether it's murder, manslaughter, death by dangerous driving or less serious offences such as common assault and breaching an injunction, most of the crimes featured result in controversial outcomes.

Anne, 81, said: "How does a prison officer having sex with an inmate receive twice the sentence of a man who cold-bloodedly kills his wife? Our justice system is in chaos. Our jails are bursting at the seams. Do sentences any longer fit the crimes? You Be The Judge."

Elliot Reed, Executive Producer at Good TV, said: "This challenging social experiment is public service television on 5. Sentencing is a controversial part of the justice system we rarely see. You Be The Judge informs and educates, and it's also addictive TV."

5's Commissioning Editor Dan Louw added: "You Be The Judge is a moving, infuriating, complex and always fascinating look at how the justice system really works. After last year's one-off, I couldn't wait to see more."

Anne was renowned for her caustic jibes at contestants as she hosted The Weakest Link on the BBC from 2000 to 2012 and knows that her presenting style would have to be very different if she were still doing the show now.

She told The Oldie magazine: "You'd never be able to say all that now. Half of it would be stamped out."

However, Anne argued that the contestants actually enjoyed her being rude.

She explained: "I always thought the contestants would feel short-changed if I were nice.

"When we had a rehearsal with real-life people for the first time, I realised how competitive they were. I'd say, 'Why are you voting off Janet?'

"And they'd say, 'Because she has Jesus sandals and quite bad BO'. And I thought, 'Great - we can all be ourselves'."
