'Even society is a little more forgiving...' The Script's Danny O'Donoghue is proud The Voice UK changed TV talent shows
The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue was an original coach on The Voice UK and he is proud that the show changed how contestants were treated on screen.
Former Voice UK coach Danny O'Donoghue is proud that the series changed how TV talent shows treat contestants.
The Script singer spent two years on the panel of the singing competition, and Danny says the show’s emphasis on supporting the acts rather than knocking them down like Simon Cowell’s The X Factor did was a positive thing.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he said: "I really enjoyed my time when I was on The Voice. We were part of a movement to not judge so much, we were there to coach. It’s great to see that the mantle has kind of been taken on. Even society is a little more forgiving to people and not so judgemental.”
Danny, 45, made his first appearance on The Voice UK in 2012 and was part of the original panel that included Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, Jessie J and Sir Tom Jones.
In the first series he coached Bo Bruce, who finished as runner-up, and he returned in 2013 and guided Andrea Begley to victory in the singing competition,
The Breakeven singer left after two series to focus on his band The Script.
But Danny admits he would return to The Voice UK or another similar talent show if he was given the opprtunity.
When asked if he’d appear on The Voice UK again or another talent show, he replied: “Yeah, of course. I would totally be up for it.”
In May 2025, Danny got married to his long-term girlfriend Anais Niang.
The couple met in London by pure chance during the COVID-19 pandemic and went public with their romance in 2021 at the Pride of Britain Awards.
Danny proposed in Norway in August 2024, getting down on one knee to pop the question in Norway, a location he described as his "favourite place on earth".
Before tying the knot with Anais, Danny was previously in a four-year relationship with Lithuanian model Irma Mali until 2012. He then dated Brazilian model Anne De Paula for four years after meeting on the set of his 2014 music video No Good In Goodbye.
