Melanie Blatt's All Saints choreography didn't help her on Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
All Saints singer Melanie Blatt didn't get to apply the choreography she learnt with the band to her appearance on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special.
Melanie Blatt's All Saints chereography proved useless for her Strictly Come Dancing training.
The 50-year-old singer is one of six celebrities battling it out in the festive special of the BBC show on Christmas Day (25.12.25) and admits that the dancing skills required are very different to the moves she learnt during her time with the Never Ever band.
Melanie told the BBC: "We did do choreography in All Saints, but it was a very different sort of choreography. We just plodded around for years! Whereas now I've got to have my shoulders back, and a proper frame, which is the complete opposite.
"But I did already know how to count to eight, which has been helpful!"
The star - who is partnered with Strictly pro Kai Widdrington for the Christmas special - explained that she was apprehensive about wearing a dress on the show.
Melanie said: "The main thing that I've had to overcome is the outfit side of things. I'm not a dress wearer, but I'll be wearing a long flowy dress for this.
"I'm very particular about the shapes and the things I wear. So that's been quite challenging, but it's good to be challenged. And it's made me realise to just go for it and not care so much."
Despite her concerns, Melanie is determined to give her all on the show - which will also feature comedian Babatunde Aleshe, former Westlife singer Brian McFadden, ex-Googlebox star Scarlett Moffatt, Gladiators favourite Jodie Ounsley and EastEnders actor Nicholas Bailey.
Asked what she'll take away from her Strictly experience, she said: "To just to go for it, to not be in my head and worry about what other people are going to think. To just give it your all, get out there and do stuff that you're not initially comfortable doing. It's good for the soul and you can find out a lot about yourself.
"I think Strictly’s proven that over the years, with the amount of celebrities who come on the show who people might not initially think would go so far. But because they've gone inside themselves and committed to it, they do well – and it’s great to see. I think it's the same thing for everyone that does the Christmas special too."
Blatt also quipped: "Oh and how unfit I am. That's the main thing I'll take away! That I need to go to the gym more!"
